Cammell Laird is well equipped with machine, mechanical, pipe and steel fabrication workshops adjacent to the drydocks. In addition to this, a large amount of covered storage is also available to support projects.
4000 m2 of main steelwork shops adjacent to No5 dry-dock, with a maximum of 10 tonnes overhead craneage supplemented with up to 200 tonne mobile cranes. Fully equipped with semi-automatic MIG welding equipment, submerged arc panel welding tractors and ‘Moggie’ stiffener welding tractors.
Brake press capacity of up to 600 tonnes, rollers, guillotines up to 12mm etc.
There is a large steel processing plant within a 1 mile radius, holding stock of several thousand tonnes and complete with blasting/painting shop and CNC plasma profiling beds.
All steel is supplied on a just in time basis, blasted and primed and profiled from yard fabrication DXF drawings.
1000 m2 pipe shop with 5 tonne overhead crane, fully equipped with MIG/TIG welding facilities, cutting, bending and testing equipment.
2 major galvanising facilities within 10 miles, with fast turnaround available.
1000 m2 mechanical fitting shop with 5 tonne overhead crane, fully fitted with all equipment necessary for mechanical overhauls and engine component refurbishment. The shop is complete with a de-greasing bay for component preparation.
The workshop is equipped with steam cleaning facilities for component preparation.
1000 m2 machine shop equipped with 10 tonne overhead crane. Machinery equipment includes lathes ranging from 400mm Swing * 1800mm Between Centres up to 1200mm Swing * 9000mm Between Centres. Horizontal and Vertical Borers up to 1400mm, Radial Arm Drills, slotters and milling machines.
Electrical & Plant Shop
400 m2 In house workshop to support temporary lighting, equipment repair and maintenance.
300 m2 outfit workshop equipped with various wood working & GRP fabrication machinery to support dry-docking activities, lifeboat repairing and general external outfit activities.
300 m2 fully equipped rigging shop with in house lifting equipment for up to 200 tonne lifting capacity. Facilities for inspection, testing and maintenance.
All equipment periodically certified to LOLA regulations.
The Ship-repair yard covers an area of approximately 45 acres and therefore offers ample outside storage facilities.
There are currently 1200 m2 of designated secure undercover store facilities complete with 5 tonne overhead crane capacity, and the facility to employ larger mobile. Larger undercover storage areas can be made available if required.
