Cammell Laird shipyard is celebrating another awards triumph after being named ‘Business of the Year’, at the Wirral Investment Network (WiN) Business Awards.
The award is the second big win for the shipyard in the last month after it was named Merseyside Business of the Year at the Liverpool Daily Post Business Awards at St George’s Hall in June. The Wirral Business Awards, organised by Wirral Council, saw more than 400 guests attend a packed gala evening at Birkenhead School.
Talking ahead of the award presentation the evening’s compare, BBC Radio Merseyside’s Roger Phillips, said the award recognised outstanding performance, exceptional financial returns, strong growth and market leadership in its sector.
Cammell Laird Chief Executive John Syvret accepted the award with members of the team. He said it is hugely rewarding for the business to receive recognition from the local community.“ Cammell Laird is at the heart of the Wirral,” he said. “It is local people who have made its name over the last 180 years and it is local people who have worked so hard to rebuild it. I thank Wirral Council for its support for us particularly over the last ten years when it has maintained faith in having a shipyard business in Birkenhead. That faith is now being repaid following our most successful year. Cammell Laird has played a massive role in Wirral life for generations. We aim to continue that tradition in the months and years ahead creating jobs and wealth for local people and businesses.”
