Cammell Laird Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders support Fairbridge which is a local charity based in the centre of Liverpool. Fairbridge work with the most difficult to reach and engage young people between the ages of 13 and 25. The charity is considered as a “first step organisation,” giving young people the skills, motivation and confidence they need to turn their lives around. Indeed many of the young people Fairbridge work with are at severe risk of exclusion from society and many are already outside education, employment and training.
Recently nine Cammell Laird Apprentices had the opportunity to work and achieve their Royal Yachting Certificate (Level 1) onboard the Spirit of Fairbridge, a vessel that is used as a training facility for the young people that Fairbridge support which sails around the coast of the UK.
The nine Apprentices that took part in the weekend on Spirit were able to gain first hand experience of the work that Fairbridge do with young people as well as develop their own communication and organisation skills.
This link will continue to develop with Fairbridge and already fund raising activities are being planned by the Apprentices to help raise much needed money to allow Fairbridge to continue supporting the young people of Merseyside and the Wirral.
